Zugló has a new landmark: on 16 October, Zenit Corso officially opened its doors behind Bosnyák Square, becoming Budapest’s newest, most modern shopping and community centre. Developed by Bayer Construct, the project covers more than 6.7 hectares, offering not just retail space but an entirely new urban experience for residents.
Budapest’s newest mall opened today
The 11,000-square-metre retail area brings together premium shops, restaurants, cafés and essential services – aiming to create a place where everyday errands, shopping and leisure come together. The ground floor features smaller shops and open-terrace eateries, while the upper level hosts larger stores. Among the well-known brands are Aldi, Libri, Flying Tiger, Rossmann, KiK, Pepco, Sinsay and Bortársaság, writes Portfolio. What makes Zenit Corso stand out is its semi-open “street mall” concept, blending the charm of pedestrian streets with the convenience of a contemporary shopping centre. The complex also includes a two-level underground car park with 530 spaces, ensuring easy access for shoppers.
Huge development even around the designated area
As part of the wider development, 168 new apartments and office buildings have also been constructed, while the surrounding public areas and roads were completely renewed. More than 900 metres of Csömöri Road were fully refurbished, a new bridge was built over the Rákos Stream, and extensive utility upgrades were carried out – including the replacement of a long-outdated water main. Dedicated bus lanes were also added to improve the efficiency and safety of public transport. The opening of Zenit Corso marks the completion of one of Zugló’s largest urban regeneration projects. The area behind Bosnyák Square, which had stood unused for decades, has been brought back to life. The traditional Bosnyák market remains in place, complemented by landscaped green areas, new pavements and tree-lined streets.
Full of modern technology
Architecturally, Zenit Corso was designed with sustainability and community living in mind. The complex features geothermal heating, energy-efficient systems and modern shading technology. Its façade is covered with perforated metal panels concealing a track-mounted LED lighting system that creates a striking night-time light display.
During the opening week (16–22 October), visitors are being welcomed with special offers, culinary events and family-friendly programmes. According to the new shopping centre’s Facebook post: “From October 16 to 22, we welcome everyone to enjoy a variety of programs, music, workshops, and surprises in the heart of Zugló, next to Bosnyák Square!
